Fees and Insurance
Dr. Kidd is opted out of the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). This means that patients (including those from Ontario) are responsible for payment at the time of service. Our office will bill OHIP on behalf of Ontario patients however, for services or procedures that OHIP covers. A cheque is usually received in the mail within four to six weeks. Out of province or out of country patients will be provided assistance in billing their own provincial or private insurance carriers.
Government health insurance plans pay for basic medical examinations, and some procedures, e.g. manipulations, some injections, and a limited amount of time for nutritional counseling and education. Other procedures are no longer covered (e.g. prolotherapy) or have never been covered (neural therapy). Unfortunately, Canadian law does not allow private insurance coverage of these services when provided by physicians.
Dr. Kidd's billing policy is to charge for professional time, rather than for particular types of examinations or procedures. With the exception of a few deep injections, there is no extra charge for prolotherapy, neural therapy, electromagnetic treatments, intravenous treatments and other services not covered by government and private health insurance plans.
Nutritional supplements, supplies and special laboratory investigations are charged according to cost; i.e. No profit is made on any supply or supplement that Dr. Kidd recommends. There is no charge for research or consultation time spent discussing complex cases with consultants or personal physicians.
Telephone calls from existing patients to discuss unexpected responses to treatment are accepted without charge. Calls requiring more than a few minutes should be scheduled with Dr. Kidd's secretary and will be charged at an appropriate rate.
